Il prossimo 4 novembre nella sede Ersel di Torino in piazza Solferino 11 sarà aperta al pubblico la mostra Platinum – The 31 Studio Archive, un'ampia antologia fotografica che raccoglie le stampe al platino provenienti dagli archivi dell'atelier inglese 31 Studio, uno dei più affermati laboratori di stampa al platino a livello mondiale.
Fondato da Paul Caffell nel 1988, con la successiva complicità del figlio Max Caffell, il 31 Studio è stato il primo atelier specializzato nella stampa al platino e palladio sul territorio inglese, e nel corso degli anni ha saputo attrarre numerose personalità del mondo della fotografia e dell'arte contemporanea. Sono nate così delle immagini uniche e immutabili, dotate della morbidezza e profondità che solo il platino può dare. Una selezione di queste stampe, provenienti dagli archivi del 31 Studio, si riunisce oggi in una mostra che comprende opere di alcuni tra i più rilevanti esponenti della storia della fotografia, spaziando dai classici – tra cui Frederick Evans, Alvin L. Coburn, Jacques H. Lartigue, Bill Brandt – alle immagini contemporanee – quelle di Simon Starling, Becky Beasley, Salgado – passando per i celebri scatti di Frank Horvat, Bailey e Terry O'Neill.
Alcune di queste immagini presentate alla ERSEL, come gli scatti di Lee Miller per Vogue, 1949/1950, o la ironica serie di Stephane Graff sono esposte qui per la prima a volta al grande pubblico. 86 immagini compongono questa mostra, le date delle opere spaziano dal 1859 al 2010. I testi cha accompagnano l'esposizione sono a cura del Prof. Christopher Townsend e di Pamela G. Roberts, tradotti dall'inglese da Viviana Rossi.
